This summer has been amazing! Wonderfully sweet plums picked from my yard, funky and colorful heirloom vegetables at the farmer's market, pungent and beautifully stinky garlic in Gilroy and picnics, bar-b-ques and potlucks..oh my!
I am a not a "recipe" cook. I allow the seasons and nature to dictate what is on the menu. Along with the ingredients that are available and change throughout the year so does my cooking style. For example now in the summer months simple fresh salads, grilled meats, cold cocktails and no fuss desserts are on the table. In the coming months when the fall air becomes cool and crisp, I tend to roast, bake and stew my foods. The comforts of food and cooking are blessings that I hold dear to my heart each and every day.
I did a food styling and photo shoot last week for some autumn apple recipes with my friend Stephen. Bringing food to life is such an art form. I don't like to fuss with my food too much. I let the natural colors and unique shapes and textures of the ingredients speak for themselves. Natural lighting along with simple backdrops allow the dishes to appeal to the eye. Stephen is an ace behind the lens. Thanks for your help Senor Gibbs!
I find so much pleasure in the small wonders that are all around the Bay area. Within the city of San Francisco there are amazing food markets, co-ops, and specialty stores that showcase locally grown and produced culinary specialties. And along the back roads around Northern California you will find roadside produce stands selling locally grown fruits, vegetables, cheese, nuts, honey, and jams.
